How we ended up rowing around the UK

To give you some insight into how we ended up rowing around the UK to raise £100,000 for Wessex Cancer Trust and the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund, here’s a little timeline:

  • 217638_115594101856439_3361171_n2010 Ellis & Mark work as extras on a scene in Ridley Scott’s movie Robin Hood with 100s of other rowers, giving them a taste for big wave surf rowing
  • On the return to Bournemouth, Ellis speaks to Steen and tells him they are on the search for a boat.
  • By chance the very week before, Steen has seen a boat which sounded like what Ellis was after – after a short conversation with Matt Lloyd, Recreational Officer & Surf Lifesaving regional officer, the boat (which was a rotten wreck) was donated
  • Bournemouth Surf Boat Club formed on 4th July 2009
  • 2 years later and over 8000 man hours of repairs and the boat is ready to go
  • The Bournemouth Surf Boat Club officially set up in 2011
  • Raced in the UK Surf Rowing League in 2012.
  • Girl team won silver in the European championship.
  • 3rd June 2012, the boat was part of the Queen’s pageant for the Diamond Jubilee
  • 2nd May 2015: We’ll be setting of on a 2,500 mile journey!
